Lifting & Lowering Ergonomic Assessment Checklist

Improper manual handling techniques can quickly lead to musculoskeletal injuries (or MSIs). This 10 question checklist focuses on the circumstances; such as the weight or location of the object, and the technique; including the position of the lifter’s body and any movements that may be required, that may lead to such an injury. An effective ergonomic assessment and intervention can reduce the physical demands of manual work and improve a company’s productivity and overall safety. This checklist should be used by safety officials to audit the manual lifting and lowering of materials to identify such improper techniques or circumstances that could lead to an injury while exploring ways of improving those techniques for the betterment of the employees and organization.
